AMEM Mission Statement

Small is beautiful -

this applies for Austria as a country and the Austrian Marine Equipment Manufacturers as an association likewise. In a certain way this fact considerably contributes to the competitiveness of this very active community of high tech companies, many of them being world market leaders in their particular fields of activities. Small – in international terms – mostly family owned companies are searched after reliable partners in sharing knowledge–driven technology and development processes. This contributes to substantially reduced risks of violating third parties’ intellectual properties. Last but not least small and medium sized companies are generally speaking less exposed to merger mania.

They are capable of meeting their clients high level expectations in product design because of innovation processes based on structured and documented performance feedback about their products over the total life cycle.

Austrian marine equipment suppliers have been experiencing a kaleidoscopic pattern of different, controversal demands for their products and services during the past year. While some companies were drowned in a flood of orders, others had to fight hard to keep their figures at the same level as previous years. Some had extraordinary success in the Far East, others were kicked out of the market by duplicated parts manufactured locally or by price expectations far beyond reality.

Some suffered from the high Euro, others were almost unaffected, some had to compensate for losses in commercial shipbuilding, pushing their sales successfully, for example in the military, automotive or aerospace arenas.

Made in Austria

Maritime transport is a prerequisite for global trade and commerce, and the sea lines of communication will have to be protected more efficiently against attacks of terrorists and criminals.

Austrian companies will have to adapt to these dramatic changes, which will have significant consequences to the design of and demand for new products and services. Austrian expertise gained from installations in commercial shipbuilding is more and more contributing to the attractiveness of dual purpose equipment for civil and naval applications - Made in Austria.

AMEM is a non-profit-making organisation. Income is derived entirely from members’ annual subscriptions.

Austrian Marine Equipment Manufacturers considers itself to be a marketing platform with a very lean administrative structure, devoting all its power to the three major areas of activities:

  • Lobbying in Vienna and Brussels

  • Contracting of exhibitions, conferences and technology missions

  • Consulting Services - Expertises, Fact Finding Missions, Market Research Reports, Support for Business Plans
